Matthew Cumbie

Matthew Cumbie

Maine // Certified in 2020

Matthew Cumbie (he/him) is a collaborative dancemaker, writer, and artist educator. His artistic research cultivates processes and experiences that are participatory and intergenerational, and brings a poetic lens to a specifically queer experience. During his time with Dance Exchange, Matthew deepened his relationship to CRP, often facilitating workshops with academic and artistic communities across the country. He is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colby College in central Maine and is a certified practitioner of Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process. In addition to applying CRP to his own creative endeavors – as a methodology for feedback and a set of values guiding creative processes – Matthew enjoys reflecting on CRP in relation to queerness and in introducing CRP to those new (or new-ish) to the practice.
