Anna Summers began engaging in the Critical Response Process in 2021, when she attended Liz Lerman’s course at Arizona State University. Since then, she has since adapted its use in a variety of ways: in classical music masterclass settings, in private one on one pedagogy, group pedagogy, music rehearsals, as well as within administrative contexts and as a strategy for navigating family dynamics. Her most significant exploration of CRP took place in July 2022 at the Co-Lab Music Festival at The Reach at The Kennedy Center during which they examined the racial and political challenges that exist in music pedagogy and how CRP can facilitate provocative conversation. Says Anna, “Each step in CRP has powerfully impacted my everyday conversations and relationships, personal and professional.”
