Kevin Kaempf is a visual artist and educator based in Chicago. He primarily works collaboratively creating projects, events, and publications. Kaempf’s practice values conversation, social spaces, and participatory processes. His projects have included jointly running the experimental community space Mess Hall in Chicago, creating environmental pilot programs in locations throughout the US, and working with the performance collective Lucky Pierre. Kaempf has focused on integrating the Critical Response Process into college-level studio art programs. With an emphasis on strengthening student agency, Kaempf leverages CRP as part of a constellation of alternative tools available to the traditional hierarchies associated with
academic critique which typically prioritizes expertise, knowing, and judgement. He has
conducted workshops and training for undergraduates and graduate students, college faculty and administrators, and community organizations.
