Matthew Cumbie (he/him) is a collaborative dancemaker, writer, and artist educator. His artistic research cultivates processes and experiences that are participatory and intergenerational, and brings a poetic lens to a specifically queer experience. Matthew deepened his relationship to CRP while an artist with the Dance Exchange, often facilitating workshops with academic and artistic communities across the country. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Performance, Theater, and Dance at Colby College in central Maine and is a certified practitioner of Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process. In addition to applying CRP to his own creative endeavors – as a methodology for feedback and a set of values guiding creative processes – Matthew enjoys reflecting on CRP in relation to queerness and in introducing CRP to those new (or new-ish) to the practice.
